Tapa Tapa Tapa

One of my current gaming addictions (well one of two) is The Simpsons: Tapped Out. Essentially a game where you build your own version of Springfield by earning and spending in-game coins (or buying premium donuts with real-life money), the game has taken the App store by storm and has become one of the most popular free games downloaded.

The aim of the game is to earn as much money as possible, so that you can reinvest it into building new buildings which in turn earn more money. Players can also visit their friends’ towns each day to get some bonus money, encouraging you to invite more people to the app and hence increase the player numbers. Me being borderline OCD have made sure that my town is laid out in some sort of order, which has probably slowed my progress but is preferable to the hot mess that many other users seem to have created in their Springfields.

One of the most exciting things about the Tapped Out Universe are the perennial updates that are made to the game, especially the seasonal changes which are added every few months and adds new characters, tasks and buildings to the game. The current (and unusual) update takes inspiration from the classic ‘Whacking Day’ episode and involves tapping on snakes which are roaming your town, then saving them up to get new buildings including a military fort and a sleazy motel. Giving the game even more addictiveness, the updates are well worth the wait and with developers promising more in the future its added incentive to keep at it.

If you’re looking for a game to waste some time during the day on then Tapped Out is definitely worth a gander, and if you’re already playing and want to add me as a friend leave your username in the comments 🙂

(Not a clip from the Whacking Day episode, but appropiate nonetheless)
